What is Traveling Story Hour?


Traveling Story Hour is a hands-on, experiential-learning, educational and entertaining program incorporating the 6 Early Literacy Skills with interactive storytelling, songs, rhymes and poetry. Each session is 25 minutes in length and is geared for 3, 4, 5, and 6 year olds.


The sessions focus on 6 Early Literacy Skills which prepare children in learning to read:


  1. 1.Print Awareness: the idea that words are everywhere

  2. 2.Print Motivation: enjoyment of being read to and reading

  3. 3.Phonological Awareness: sounds

  4. 4.Vocabulary: variety of words

  5. 5.Letter Knowledge

  6. 6.Narrative Skills: participatory storytelling


Each session is themed to create cohesiveness, current themes for 2010: All Join In, Animal Tales, Around the World, Down on the Farm, Enjoy our Earth: Environmental Stories, and Super Silly Stories. Custom themes available.


This 6 week program includes one visit per week focusing on one of the 6 Early Literacy Skills and incorporates storytelling, songs, rhymes and poetry. Fee is based on number of classes participating and there is a discount for multiple bookings. You can also book one week at a time, fee is dependent on number of sessions.
